F-CCCC events committee starts 2013 planning

The Frederickson-Clover Creek Community Council events committee met Wednesday afternoon, September 26th, to continue planning for 2013.  The meeting, led by committee chairwoman Kate Lowry, was held at Ricky J's restaurant on 176th St.

Lowry, who owns Ricky J's, brought the meeting to order at 4:00 p.m. with eleven concerned residents in attendance.  Discussion first centered on the annual family movie nights, which are typically free to attend.

Many of the same items from past movie events should continue in 2013, such as pony rides, a bounce house, and the blood mobile.  The inaugural hula hoop contest from the last movie should continue based on positive reaction from the community.  The idea of having a local fire truck attend is also a possibility.

A solid date has not been set for the first movie night of 2013, but is speculated to be scheduled for late June.  The movie has not yet been decided either, but the committee is looking to make sure everyone knows about it when the time comes.

“If we can get some sponsors for ‘save-the-date’ flyers to send home with local school students,” said Shannon Sciaciotti, a former F-CCCC events chairwoman. “Then we can reach over 2,200 students and their families.”

Planning then turned to the large-scale event of Freddie Fest.  The annual festival was not held in 2012 due to many factors, but mostly due to monetary restraints on the F-CCCC.  The events committee is hoping local businesses will be the difference in 2013.

“Lemay is in for a portion,” said Charlie Maxwell, head of public relations for Lemay. “Between Lemay and the F-CCCC we can afford the bare bones, but we need additional sponsorships for much more than that.”

Committee members see Freddie Fest hosting the usual vendor tents, face painting and a cook-off – maybe BBQ.  A classic car show is in the works, as well as ideas of a possible dunk tank or other exciting activities.

“I think there are a lot of great ideas, but we need more volunteers,” commented Angela Magill, F-CCCC President. “We have great people working on these events, but some business sponsorships and a lot of hard work for the next year is the only way we can make this happen for our community.”

If you are interested in helping organize Frederickson community events or interested in helping sponsor, please contact Lowry by email at events@fcccc.us or Magill at president@fcccc.us.  Also, all event planning meetings are open to the public with the next being held on October 11th at Ricky J’s starting at 4:00 p.m.
